Public Service students step up for Crucial Crew event

27 March 2017
The Crucial Crew event held over the last two weeks covered a range of life scenarios including cyber bullying, illegal drugs, road safety while using mobile phones, fire hazards in the home, alcohol awareness and other issues. The session teaches children more about the risks and how to take simple preventative steps to avoid them.

The students worked alongside organisations including Hertfordshire Police, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Samaritans and St Albans District Council to deliver personal and safety education messages to Year 6 children.

Public Services tutor Ian Morrison said: “The students gain a lot from this experience, it offers them the opportunity to work with members of a variety of Public Service groups as well as taking part in activities that allow them to give something back to the local community.

“It also allows them to develop a range of personal and employability skills including effective communication, punctuality, teamwork and self-discipline. Their contribution and positive attitude have been a massive credit to both themselves and Oaklands College.”
